How to Use
ZINGA
Zinga is form of cold applied galvanising.
Step-by-Step
How to Apply Zinga:
Zinga is a one-component film galvanising system providing both active cathodic protection and passive barrier protection for steel surfaces. Unlike traditional industrial paints, Zinga contains 96% pure zinc in its dry film, offering long-term corrosion resistance in a cold-applied liquid form.Follow the step-by-step video above or use this guide for proper surface preparation and application.

1. Surface Preparation
Proper surface prep is critical to achieving active cathodic protection and long-term durability.
- De-greasing & Cleaning: Ensure the steel substrate is completely free of dirt, oil, grease, salts, and previous paint systems. Use high-pressure water washing or a suitable solvent degreaser.
- Surface Roughness: Grit blast the steel surface to SA 2.5 standard with a roughness profile of Rz 50–70 µm (roughness grade Medium G according to ISO 8503-2). This mechanical keying ensures optimal adhesion.
- Dust Removal: Vacuum or blow off residual dust using oil-free compressed air before application.
2. Mixing & Thinning Zinga
- Thorough Homogenisation: Zinga contains a very high concentration of heavy zinc powder. Stir thoroughly before use until the liquid is completely smooth and uniform throughout the tin.
- Re-stirring: Continue to agitate periodically during larger application jobs to prevent zinc settlement.
- Thinning: Zinga is ready to use for brush or roller application. For spray application, dilute strictly with Zingasolv (refer to technical data sheet for required proportions). Do not use standard white spirit or paint thinners.
3. Application Methods
Zinga can be applied in temperatures ranging from -15°C to +40°C and at relative humidity levels up to 95%, making it exceptionally versatile for on-site or off-site application.
- Brush or Short-Pile Roller: Ideal for spot repairs, stripe coating on edges, welds, bolts, and smaller structural components. Apply using smooth, uniform strokes.
- Conventional or Airless Spraying: Recommended for large structural areas to achieve an even coating layer.Tip: Stripe-coat all welds, sharp edges, and fixings with a brush prior to full spray application.
4. Drying, Curing & Re-Coating
- Touch Dry: Typically touch dry in 10–15 minutes at 20°C.
- Overcoating / Second Coat: Zinga can be re-coated with itself after 1 hour. Because Zinga re-liquefies existing layers upon contact, multiple coats blend into a single continuous zinc layer with no layer division.
- Duplex Systems (Topcoats): If overcoating Zinga with a compatible PU or epoxy topcoat (Duplex System), allow Zinga to cure for a minimum of 2 hours (or as specified in the technical data sheet) and ensure proper seal-coat procedures are followed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Zinga seamlessly re-charges and repairs worn or damaged hot-dip galvanising without requiring dismantling or hot-work permits.
No. Zinga has an unlimited pot life and an unlimited shelf life when stored in a tightly sealed tin in cool, dry conditions. It will not skin over or spoil in the container.
HOW ZINGA WORKS
Cathodic protection, or active protection, arises from the zinc (the anode) sacrificing itself in favour of the base metal (the cathode) with the resulting flow of electrons preventing corrosion's...
